We had a real good thing going....The Fortnightly challenge.
And then it, kind of, petered out!!
An array of great themes ranging from Color, Low ambient light, Portraiture, Leading lines and many more saw hectic activity with the membership falling over themselves to put up their best. Then, sadly, something happened. And the entries started dwindling.
Lately, there have been many new and active members with increased traffic on the forum. And the kind of work on display has been quite phenomenal.
May I suggest that we give a kick start to the challenge again.
Would love to have the views of the membership at large.

It becomes difficult to evaluate then ......For me its better to stick to the theme

PV ......i mean it becomes difficult to evaluate for the viewer and not the photographer .
I think for competition there shud be a theme and u shud stick to it , but this is my personal view point, others may differ
From photographer view point he shud be able to think creative about the theme and not just stick to the genre he shoots most often .

It wont be difficult JT to judge. There will be few points on composition, sharpness, POV, etc. For a particular subject it is difficult to shoot ( as per me) as in time no of participants will decrease. |

Agree bro. But i guess this is THE reason for less participation.
Not every one shoots for a competetion (at least not every Fortnight).
But yes, a competetion without theme, it would be difficult to judge.
Cheers! |

Restarting the contest will be really nice, especially along the lines of what Neloy said. I will try my best to participate.
I wonder if removing the older posts of the challenges or moving them to a different location will help. It will be like a clean slate to draw, and unlike a board half written, will reduce clutter.
If we choose themes, we can repeat a few topics. I think about 30-40pc of the PAAI membership has been long enough to remember what we shot and submitted in the older themes.
Speaking of which, its been a long time since I saw Devjit, Sayan, Lakshmi and Kaipu put up shots or participate in the discussions. I really used to enjoy some of the posts.
Cheers,
Ro |

just a quick thought/ suggestion.
what about a rotating theme based kind of a senario from the photo showcase. "Nature & Wildlife" one forthnight and "Landscape & Architecture" the next... followed by "People".
although i dont like the shoot whatever idea too much. please restart it! |

Overall, not a very encouraging response with only 7 members responding and that too with varying viewpoints on the way it needs to be carried forward.
On a number of forums it seems to be running well with theme based content, but I guess we dont have a very large, active membership.
PV said he wanted to shoot whatever he liked...well, dont we all... the theme based competition atleast gets you thinking!
Jatin has a point about evaluation being difficult without a theme.
Lastly, Mohan has a good point...to shoot as per the categories listed in the forum....
and mohan, another quote from Jimi the great....
I've been imitated so well I've heard people copy my mistakes.

If I may suggest, a fortnightly competition where the members first have to post into a thread (which becomes a sticky) three themes that they will click around for the fortnight. After 15 days they come and add those pictures to their own thread.
A panel of judges are formed for each fortnight.....which is off course decided by the seniors of this forum. They go around each participants threads and leave their evaluative comments. The winners (1&2) get to the panel of judges for the next fortnightly competition.
Judges can rate on the required parameters by looking at the chosen theme of the participant.
My two cents |

Its good that we are starting the theme competition again.Being inactive for a long time for various reasons.I welcome the members initiative. My two suggestions are
1. all the winner's photographs should put in the annual selection and three best pic should be selected.
2.regarding the theme,we should stick to the theme, next theme should be given a month ahead, and at least one or two picture should be taken in the specified period of time and rest of pic can be of back date but not before the date of announcement of the theme. Member can participate only when his/her one pic confines to the stipulated date of the theme
I think this may increase the chances of participation. |

Few thoughts:
What is the surety that new way and new theme with different timing will bring in more participation?
As per my understanding (please correct me if I am wrong) we took break only because of lower participation, so we shud consider the means and ways to increase participation and we should suggest to increase the level of participation rather than concentrating on changing the format of competition, obviously that is a continuous process and we can keep improving side by side.
I am sure everyone has felt the vacuum created by absence of the fortnightly competition.
I am in favor for a regular competition and honestly speaking (no intention to hurting anyone) I feel that earlier format of competition was good and interesting enough.
Please start before 2009.
Thanks - Satvir |

in my opinion
there should be a theme
though i have been breathing photography but could not even visit this club as there is huge pressure of work at office.
but i think we can improve participation by arranging more meeting of the club |

I have a suggestion: put the theme :My Best Shot". so that if asked whether there is a theme, there is; if asked whether there is a specific theme, there is not; so both opinions are honoured |
